"In 2005, 49.7 percent of children who were maltreated were white, 23.1 percent were African American, and 17.4 percent were Hispanic. American Indians and Alaska Natives accounted for 1.2 percent of victims, and Asian-Pacific Islanders accounted for less than 1 percent of victims"("Child Abuse and Neglect Statistics"). This shows that all children can be mistreated, not just one specific race/ethnicity, and further proves that this is a worldwide issue.

Whether you realize it or not, neglected and abused children are a global issue. “Every year, between 500 million and 1.5 billion [children] worldwide endure some form of violence”(“Child Abuse Facts”).
"Every 10 minutes, somewhere in the world, an adolescent girl dies as a result of violence," but boys are equally capable of being abused(“Child Abuse Facts”).
Not only are children physically abused, they can be emotionally abused. "Estimates of child maltreatment indicate that nearly a quarter of adults (22.6 percent) worldwide suffered physical abuse as a child [and] 36.3 percent experienced emotional abuse"(“Child Abuse Facts”).
When kids are abused, they tend to get more stressed than other children. "Recent studies show that the stress that comes along with child abuse shrinks one of the key regions of the brain that regulates emotion, memory, and learning"(Goodman).
Because of the situations that these children go through, they are more likely to suffer from mental health disorders, substance abuse, depression, and other health issues. In addition, "individuals who reported six or more adverse childhood experiences had an average life expectancy two decades shorter than those who reported none" ("Child Abuse Statistics and Facts").
